PARRY SOUND to FRANKLIN ISLAND & BRITT

After our guests departed we decided to take a bike ride and provision for a few days. By accident we found a nice market in Parry Sound with fresh fruits and vegetables.  Once our grocerys were stowed on Thistle, we contined our bike ride around Parry Sound. The towns most exciting landmark is the Bobby Orr Hall of Fame Museum! The famous Hockey player is originally from PARRY SOUND and is very generous to the community.

Back aboard at the Big Sound Marina we finished a few maintance projects, did laundry and had a great BBQ dinner.

We departed early the following morning with good weather. The weather report changes fast on the Georgian Bay... And because of a new severe weather report over the radio, we stopped sooner than planned at Franklin Island. We anchored (successfully) with seven other boats in Regatta Bay.

Regatta Bay is well protected, and we were very pleased with our decision to stop here. Regatta Bay got it's name from the regattas held here by the ladies who attended the YWCA Camp on FRANKLIN ISLAND in the early 1900's.

Everyone told us that the scenery just gets more and more spectacular as we head north on the Small Craft Channel... Hard to believe, but true!!! The next day we continued in the 30,000 Islands region to the town of Britt for the night.

Looper Tip: Try the Pickerel Dinner at St. Amant's in Britt...excellent!

Our course the last two days:
PARRY SOUND to FRANKLIN ISLAND - Yellow Line (three hours).
FRANKLIN ISLAND to BRITT - Green Line (five hours)

The best Market in PARRY SOUND called the "Farmers Market", open everyday!

Sunset at The Big Sound Marina in PARRY SOUND.

Red and White Lighthouses leaving PARRY SOUND.... and a nice Red and White Tug Boat passed us traveling the opposite direction.

We anchored for the first time on the Loop!!! Captain Greg jumped in to check that our anchor was secure on the muddy bottom ;)

We paddled around FRANKLIN ISLAND in the rain...admiring the clear water and beautiful pink granite rocks.

Our FRANKLIN  ISLAND boat neighbors stopped by to give us some local tips and try out our SUP's. The bottom right photo is a recording of our GPS location (movement) while at anchor for the night.

Every direction had a different sunset view from our Flydeck in Regatta Bay.

We navigate  the hairpin turns on the narrow Small Craft Route by using the Blue Gatman App on our iPads.
Hangdog Channel was a memorable one!

In the mid 1800's, aids to navigation in the Georgina Bay were simply piles of stone. In order to better guide boats local residents erected a barrel with a lantern at Point au Brail. In 1889 the new Point au Brail Lighthouse was built.

Beautiful!

Some more of the 30,000 Islands.

Entering the Bing Inlet to Britt. We docked for the night at the St. Amants Marina.

We saw a rainbow just before sunset... It must mean Good Luck :)
