WHITEHALL to WESTPORT

Yesterday we were up early to prepare Thistle for Lake Champlain black water discharge regulations, the Lake has some of the most stringent in the USA and we are now in compliance. After those tasks were complete we pushed off the dock by 8:30 am, to hopefully out race the pending rain storm on Lake Champlain. Our mission was to find a place to watch the World Cup Final game on the Lake. After reading reviews on Active Captain we headed for WESTPORT, and arrived by 2:15pm for a 3 pm game time. Sunday was cloudy and a bit chilly at 63 degrees (can't even believe I am saying this....I am sure we will be smoldering hot today?)

We finished our last lock (C-12) within minutes of departure and proceeded along Lake Champlain until docking at WESTPORT Marina (it's nice but $2.00 a foot, missing the free NY Canal Ports). Along the way we saw beautiful old lake front homes, Fort Ticonderoga, The Ticonderoga Ferry and most exciting an Eagle in a nest! We rode our bikes to the local hotel to watch the exciting game and it was right next to the historic Essex County Fairgrounds. In 2005 The Fair Grounds were placed on the National Registry of Historic places. At sunset we honored Hero Lifeguard Ben.

This morning is a little foggy so we are checking boat chores off our list, waiting for the weather to clear and then we are headed to Vermont.

WHITEHALL to WESTPORT

Lock C-12... In WHITEHALL

An Eagle in a nest!

Fort Ticonderoga was built in the 18th century (1755-1757) by the French in the narrow south end of Lake Champlain during the Seven Years War or French Indian War. Then in May 1775 Fort Ticonderoga was captured during the American Revoluntion.

Post Cards with Ticonderoga.

The Ticonderoga Ferry is pulled by cable across the Lake ... DANGER....Don't cross too close!

Monument near the Lake Champlain Bridge.

Lake front homes.

The "Big" picture and we are 93 miles south of Montreal.

In WESTPORT... Watched World Cup and saw the historic Essex Fairgrounds.

The town of WESTPORT is located inside The Adirondack Park and is most famous for inventing the Adirondack Chair :)

RIP
