The hour plus seven nautical mile trip up Otter Creek was beautiful, we saw many birds and a fox along the creek (the fox disappeared too fast to take a picture). Once we arrived in VERGENNES it is simply breathtaking, it's a picture perfect small town with a beautiful waterfall. VERGENNES is the oldest city in Vermont and has a strong French influence.
We arrived about 1pm and there were only two other boats on the dock. By night fall the docks were entirely full and we are the only Americans...every other visitor is from Quebec and speaking French! Everyone here is very friendly and happy to share future port information or help dock incoming boats. A must stop for Loopers and it's a free dock.
We stayed in VERGENNES two nights and enjoyed the small town. The town has a few great restaurants, library, park, City Hall/Opera House, shops and a nice wine store (where we were pleased to purchase and enjoy: Fess Parker "Frontier Red" & Deirberg Starlane "Three Saints Cabernet" :)
VERGENNES is in the running for favorite port along with BLOCK ISLAND and ?????
