FORT EDWARD to WHITEHALL

On Friday morning we departed FORT EDWARD at 9:30 in order to arrive at the Port of WHITEHALL about 2 pm, enjoying sunny skies and a pleasant 70 degree day. We survived 4 locks today: C-7 / C-8 lifting up and C-9 / C-11 going down. For a bit of trivia: Just in case you are ever on Jeoperady and "The Champlain Canal" is one of the categories - There is no lock 10 :)

Along the canal on Friday the vegetation changed from farmland to evergreen trees. We planned on docking in WHITEHALL for one night, but when at port realized the town was very interesting and had a lot to offer. A carnival, concert Friday and Saturday night, a fish fry, a manor, fireworks, Amtrak station and history. The town of WHITEHALL was once a very prospourus thriving railroad center and since then has fallen on hard times. The town people are very proud of their history and show a lot of pride.

We stayed two nights and plan to write a 5 star review on Active Captain ... A must stop for you Loopers!
